How do I explain employment gaps on my resume?
As a general rule, keep your reason for your gap brief, and instead focus on how you will contribute your skills and knowledge to the company. If you managed to keep up to date with industry trends or developed skills through the activities you were doing during the gap, eg. being a stay-at-home parent, caring for a relative or travelling, mention how you used your time productively to become a better employed. If you volunteered in any capacity in between positions, you can include this experience on your resume to fill in any gaps. If you were enrolled in any training courses, either professional or personal development, you could include those details as well.
