Did you know that your body language displays your assertiveness?

  • Stand or sit up straight – shoulders back
  • Direct your attention to the speaker, make eye contact
  • Walk with a purpose

Now – throw in your verbal communication

  • Be direct (not rude)
  • Use a confident tone that matches your body language
  • Be clear when saying “no”, do not be subtle which will open the door for you to waiver with your response
  • Use “I” statements. Rather than appearing aggressive, say, “I feel,” “I think,” etc.

Developing the ability to stand up for yourself will make you a respected employee. As long as you are clear in your goals and wants you can be assertive without being aggressive.
