I’ve applied to so many jobs! Why haven’t I heard anything?

Advice: Wow! I know how you feel! That can get pretty exhausting and emotionally draining. There are many factors involved with your application process-especially online. Have you heard about ATS? Many companies use what’s called ‘Applicant Tracking Systems’ for online job applications. It utilizes computer software to scan your resume and cover letter to see if you match with the qualifiers in the job description. If you match a certain percentage, you are then off to a human to review. If your resume has a less frequently used font, characters, lines, columns, etc. it can also inhibit your chance to get past the ATS software.

Companies pay to advertise open job opportunities on various job search websites. At times they do not remove their advertisement right away once a position has been filled. As a result, you could be applying for a job that no longer exists. It’s good to call the business if possible to see if the job posting you have found is still active and available for applications.

There are numerous other factors that might delay the application process so always be sure to follow-up with the employer after the closing date has passed. This could help you stand out from other candidates and also provide you with information on next steps.

An important part of job search is to keep going, keep applying and stay motivated. Good luck!
