I have not had the opportunity to experience the community I am currently residing in, as it has only been a month and cold.  I will, however, share my love for the beautiful Okanagan.

The lakes are the jewels of the Okanagan.  They are truly breathtaking, surrounded by various parks and beaches.  Bring your dogs, and your kids, and walk, swim and picnic from dawn to dusk.  There are so many things to do.  You will see so many people enjoying many different things on and off the water.  Canoeing, kayaking, water skiing and now the newest trend is paddle boarding.  You will see the fisherman out there if you are an early riser.  Hiking is endless and the scenery is out of this world.  They have cycling trails for all skills. The Rail Trail is perfect and goes all the way to Kelowna, our neighboring city.  Or for the more adventurous they have, what I call death trails, in the provincial parks.

Downtown has so much to offer. Just walking the streets and taking in all the beautiful murals of Vernon’s heritage is quite a sight.  There is a food tour that will walk you down the main street and you get to enjoy a little taste of each restaurant it’s a wonderful way to interact with the locals and exercise between samples and treats.

Of course we can’t leave out the wine tours!  The orchards go on forever words can’t begin to describe them.   The hosts love to share their knowledge and want to make your experience something you will never forget, so careful how much wine you do sample.

Vernon is not just for summer though.  You will love Silver Star Mountain!  A twenty minute drive from city center and you are in a winter wonder land.  Skate under the twinkling lights or fly down the hill in a tube, horseback ride through the snow and, of course, the astounding skiing.  It’s endless!

I hope you can make it and I will take you on their famous helicopter tour and you can see it all for yourself!
